Letchworth successfully hosted its very first Vintage Festival on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th July. The annual town centre event transported festival goers back in time to celebrate the roaring 20’s through to the Rock ‘n’ Roll 50’s, attracting thousands of visitors from both Letchworth and surrounding towns and villages.
Town centre visitors were treated to performances by some of the biggest names in Vintage entertainment. The main stage featured incredible talent from ‘The Jive Aces’, ‘The Peter Long Swing Band’, ‘My Favourite Things’ and ‘Down For The Count’, performing alongside fantastic local acts such as ‘Pete Webb’ as Elvis and ‘Paul Dowsett’ who sang a selection of favourite Rat Pack numbers.
The fun didn’t end there, the inspirational ‘JiveSwing Hoppers’ delivered vintage flash mob performances around the Town Centre throughout the day and offered up free dance classes to get the public into the swing of things too.
This free weekend event had plenty of fun for all, whether you wanted to hop on the land train ride, grab some top tips at the vintage hair & make up sessions, enjoy the impressive display of vintage & classic cars or watch a glamorous retro fashion show organised by local business ‘Just For Me’.
Retro revellers could also enjoy funfair rides, a free kids show & activities, a vintage DJ, buskers and the chance to meet a very helpful vintage policeman walking the beat.
Letchworth BID Manager Patricia Saunders commented on the success of the free Love Letchworth event: “This was an exciting first for the BID. The whole point of the Letchworth Vintage Festival was to truly entertain and bring together friends and families in celebration of the ‘good old days’. The BID wanted to organise a fun and entertaining festival that was both free and easily accessible so that everyone could enjoy our lovely Town Centre at its best! The turnout was extraordinary, especially as this event was the very first of its kind. On behalf of Letchworth BID and all businesses who make up the BID, I would like to thank everyone for coming and for their continued support of our town and local businesses. We are already looking forward to planning next year’s event.”
